ELIZA.

I remember when I first met her I could NOT get her to stop talking. (Ha, I see Anthony couldn't get her to start.)

I was surprised by the "secret code" that it took.

You aren't supposed to say that.

Hi Anthony,

"Get your own free chat bot." it says, did you?

If so, does it learn and grow in intelligent remarks?

Just spotted this post about Eliza. Just to let you know that it runs "as is" on my linux 64 bit desktop using the 64 bit linux version of QB64.

Oh, this program brings back memories.... or is that my age slipping again?  LOL

ELIZA badly needs an update. Smile
I like to program in BASIC
With code that is simple and slick
I learnt it in school
And it is still cool
So it is my number one pick

Bplus,

Amazingly the ELIZA program is still used widely in pretty much its original form today as an online psychiatrist. So much for the progress of AI over the last 50 years!

Psychiatrists are licensed to prescribe drugs, it would be extremely interesting if ELIZA was doing that.

But it is hard to imagine people are actually helped from talking with ELIZA except for an amusing diversion. But if so, they might be helped more by starting a journal and even more so reading and having imaginary conversations with authors or their characters. Such people might have been discouraged about using their imaginations when growing up.
