A pretty cool Chess program by Ken Goldberg:

I like to program in BASIC
With code that is simple and slick
I learnt it in school
And it is still cool
So it is my number one pick

Hi Adian,

Yes, I have that on my desktop! I pulled it out when we started talking about chess here. That one allows you to choose Black or White and to play another human (or yourself, studying a game I suppose.)

I think only 1 level works, and I can beat it on that level which does not say much for AI (but now I like it!).

I considered translating that monster to QB64 but saw subs defined inside subs, totally alien to my experience. I am shy with other aliens.

Hi bplus,

I think level 2 and 3 works too but takes too long for the computer to reply, so only level 1 is playable in a practical sense. Still, it's fun to beat these weak computer chess programs because even the mid-strength chess engines will easily kill us!!
