Now, some would say this is cheating. I prefer to think of it as not reinventing the wheel.
In Mathematica: Code Snippet: [Select] WolframAlpha["solve sqrt(x+15)+sqrt(x)=15", IncludePods > {"Result"}, PodStates > {"Stepbystep solution"}]

If writing a program to solve a problem when known tools exist is reinventing the wheel, which I grant, then what the *heck* is it called when you call Wolfram Alpha from *within* Mathematica? Reinventing the nest?

There is something to be said in favor of reinventing the wheel.
If it gives one a deeper insight into "wheelness" and using the wheel or wheel idea in new ways (or just properly) then it is a good thing. What is your motivation? Find a quick answer or learn something about number and algebra or get some SQR practice. For a bad joke http://www.laughfactory.com/jokes/jokeoftheday worse than Pete's
