Upgrading my hardware

The first step upgrading my hardware is done. It will be a long term effort but in the end I hope to have two usable computers.
The first step was to upgrade the RAM of the "weaker" desktop PC. I installed 4GB, 2GB were already there, so now I have 6GB of RAM. Next step is to replace the CPU which is at the moment an Athlon II X2 with an Athlon II X4 or even Phenom II X6. Third step will be a replacement for the small HDD which is now only 160GB with 500GB.
The last step for this PC will also be the first for my main desktop FX-6100 with currently 8GB of RAM: use the graphics card from that one (Radeon HD 7770) and install a new one in the "stronger" PC. Then step by step that PC will be upgraded, too. First additional 4 or 8GB of RAM, an SSD with about 200GB and finally an 8 core CPU - probably FX-8350.
Some may say now, hey, buy a new Ryzen PC, but all in all this will be cheaper, especially since for the "weaker" PC one only gets used parts.

So yesterday I upgraded the CPU to an Athlon II X4 which I got for € 17.50. Unfortunately the Phenom II are too expensive for such old CPUs. Next step will be probably a Geforce GT 710 for upgrading graphics and then a larger HDD...
By the way, QB64 or SmallBASIC are not faster now, since they use only one thread and single core performance is the same as with the dual core before.

Last update on this thread. Big Grin
I successfully installed the Geforce GT 710, a new CPU cooler and a 500 GB hard disk. The best thing is that the PC is now much quiter than before. I realized, it was the old hard disk which caused the annoying high pitched sound. Anyway, the other PC will be upgraded in the second half of the year ...
