There was a game on here that ran in the browser but I don't see an easy way to do it. The game writer was looking for venture capital and it was a virtual board game.

@Robert

Are you sure it was on this forum? I don't recall ever seeing such a game on here like that. The only online games and demos that I know of on here are the ones I shared, and they can be found at http://www.thejoyfulprogrammer.com/demos/monkeyx2/ These demos were created with the Monkey X programming language and translated to HTML5 & JavaScript.

I could be wrong, however, and if you do find it, please let us know.

There are many ways of creating online games, but the best way is to use HTML5 and JavaScript. You could use the HTML5 Canvas element, which the demos I shared above uses, for all graphics, or you could simply store each image in their own DIV element and use JavaScript & CSS to manipulate the size, opacity, and positioning of each. A lot of online, non-Flash games I've played use the DIV method for simplicity.

If you need any backend functionalities for an online game, the most popular server-side scripting languages are PHP and PERL. If you are using your own server, or have access to a server that you can install anything you want, then you could use any other programming language for the backend. I once wrote a server-side script in Assembler which I used on a personal Windows Server server.

STxAxTIC wrote a server-side scripting language called, "Sxript" (or something of that nature) that he wrote entirely in QB64, which was cool to see, but at this moment, I am not sure if it is still up.
